The Project

google-map This project started as a tribute page to raise money in memory of our mom, J’ann Pecsok, a  single parent who battled cancer for six years and passed away six years ago on April 20. We  had the page all ready to go, and then we thought, “This is kind of boring.”

As we brainstormed fundraising ideas, we kept returning to a road trip our mom and 3  girlfriends had taken during the summer of 1977. In a Dodge station wagon named Waldo, the  foursome made a 12,000 mile cross-country loop, camping and crashing with friends along the way. We’d always wanted to retrace her tracks.

We’d also always wanted to recognize the importance of help our community provided while our mom was sick. To raise awareness about the importance of non-medical support for families living with cancer. So we decided to travel around the country serving casseroles. Because what do communities do when people get sick? They make food. And in the South, where we grew up, the casserole is the ultimate symbol of support.

Our goal this summer is to raise $6000 ($1000 for every year she was sick) for Ronald McDonald House Charities. At the end of the trip, we will distribute the money equally between the houses that we visit; if we reach our minimum, that is enough to support one family’s entire stay at each house that we visit.

You can check out the details of our trip here. `
Wondering about those casseroles? Go here to find all you want to know about the dish, including some delectable recipes straight from the South.

She’s wearing her seat belt! Just used it as a hyperbole; only once have I seen her without. Everyone can rest easy.
